Do not smoke or allow an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel system related components. The highly flammable vapor mixtures may ignite, resulting in serious personal injury.
Obtain the vehicle owner's radio theft protection code, then disconnect the battery ground cable. Briefly open fuel filler cap to relieve system pressure, then close it again.
After the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal driveability symptoms may occur. The vehicle may need to be driven while it relearns its adaptive strategy.

- Remove wheel trim. Pull trim cap off light-alloy wheels, using puller in vehicle tool kit.
- Loosen bolt for drive axle outer joint by a maximum of 90°. Vehicle must be standing on its wheels to avoid risk of accident.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove wheel and tire assembly.
- Screw all five wheel bolts hand-tight.
- Remove hex bolt for drive axle outer joint.

- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove right front wheel.
- Remove alternator:
- Remove engine front cover.
- Before removing drive belt, mark direction of rotation. Belt damage will result if not reinstalled in proper direction.
- Relieve drive belt tension by turning tensioner clockwise, using a suitable tool.
- Lock tensioner in place, using a suitable tool.
- Remove drive belt from power steering pump pulley.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- On vehicles equipped with auxiliary heater,remove bolts for exhaust pipe of stationary heater/auxiliary heater on noise insulation.

- Remove front engine cover.
- Open cap of coolant expansion tank.
- On models with auxiliary heater, remove bolts for parking heater/auxiliary heater exhaust pipe on sound insulation.
- Loosen quick-release fasteners and remove front sound insulation. Rear section of sound insulation remains installed.
- Remove front bumper cover.
- Disconnect coolant hose from lower left of radiator and drain engine coolant, using a suitable container.
