Do not smoke or allow an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel system related components. The highly flammable vapor mixtures may ignite, resulting in serious personal injury.
Obtain the vehicle owner's radio theft protection code, then disconnect the battery ground cable. Briefly open fuel filler cap to relieve system pressure, then close it again.
After the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal driveability symptoms may occur. The vehicle may need to be driven while it relearns its adaptive strategy.

- Remove wheel trim. Pull trim cap off light-alloy wheels, using puller in vehicle tool kit.
- Loosen bolt for drive axle outer joint by a maximum of 90°. Vehicle must be standing on its wheels to avoid risk of accident.

- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Open filler cap for coolant expansion tank. Cooling system is pressurized when engine is warm. Wear gloves and other protection and carefully release system pressure if required, before performing repairs.
- Remove engine cover.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Place a suitable drain pan under engine to catch draining coolant.
- Pull off retaining clip and pull engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor out of engine.
