The EBCM is a small control computer located under the trim panel on the left-hand side of passenger compartment on wagon models and on the left hand side of the luggage compartment on sedan models.   • With engine running and brake pedal in rest position, measure distance between face of pedal and floor mat.
  • If distance is not 5.79-6.18 inches, adjust pedal height as follows:
    • Remove left lower instrument panel trim section and air duct.
    • Loosen stop lamp switch sufficiently to gain clearance for pedal adjustment.
    • Loosen locknut and rotate pedal pushrod as needed to obtain specified pedal height, then tighten locknut.

When a malfunction occurs in the ABS system, the EBCM will activate the amber Anti-Lock Warning Lamp. Before performing diagnosis on the ABS system when the warning lamp comes on, check that the EBCM connector and all other system electrical connectors are secure and that fuses are satisfactory. Refer to Figs. and for the ABS system functional check. Sometimes use of the compact spare will activate a wheel sensor fault code and deactivate the ABS system, if this occurs, recycle the ignition switch to reset the system.
