Individual components of cardan universal joints are not serviceable. If worn or leaking, they must be replaced as an assembly.
- Remove propeller shaft.
- Using a soft drift, tap outside of bearing cap assembly to loosen snap ring.
- Remove snap rings from both sides of yoke.
- Set yoke in an arbor press or vise with a socket whose inside diameter is large enough to receive bearing cap positioned beneath yoke.
- Position yoke with grease fitting, if equipped, pointing up.
- Place a socket with an outside diameter smaller than upper bearing cap on upper b...

- Hoist and support vehicle on safety stands.
- Scribe alignment marks on yokes at transfer case. Place marks at pinion shaft and at each end of propeller shaft. These marks will be used for installation reference.
- Remove universal joint strap bolts at pinion shaft yoke.
- Disconnect propeller shaft at transfer case and remove propeller shaft.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Torque universal joint strap/clamp bolts at axle yoke to 14 ft. lbs.
- Torque flange to transfer case bolts to 20 ft. lbs.
