SUBARU, ANTI-LOCK BRAKES -> COMPONENT TESTING -> CHECK G SENSOR CIRCUIT -> CHECK RELAYS -> CHECK VALVE RELAYS -> HYDRAULIC UNIT SOLENOID -> INPUT SIGNAL OF SENSOR TO ABS CONTROL UNIT -> POWER SUPPLY VOLTAGE TO ABS CONTROL UNIT -> SIGNAL EMITTED FROM SENSOR ABS CONTROL UNIT -> SPEED SENSORS

POWER SUPPLY VOLTAGE TO ABS CONTROL UNIT
- Turn ignition switch off.
- Disconnect connector from ABS control unit.
- Disassemble connector as follows:
- Pushing tab Fig. , then disconnect connector.
- Remove screws from connector, move boot toward harness, and slide cover in direction as shown in Fig. .
- Turn ignition On, measure voltage between connector P12 terminal 1 and ground on except SVX models or between connector R7 terminal 1 and ground on SVX models, readings should be 10 and 12 volts.
- Start engine, check input voltage of ABS control unit to alternator.

- Disconnect brake fluid level indicator connector, if equipped.
- Remove master cylinder assembly.
- Disconnect vacuum hose from brake booster.
- Working from inside the passenger compartment, remove snap pin and operating rod clevis pin from brake pedal assembly.
- Remove brake booster retaining nuts, then brake booster from vehicle.
- Reverse procedure to install. Torque brake booster retaining nuts to 9-17 ft. lbs.

The brake booster is located in line between the master cylinder and the brake pedal. It serves to mechanically boost the force pushing the pistons of the master cylinder.
The brake booster consists of a power cylinder section and a power piston section. The power cylinder is made up of a front shell, rear shell and a diaphragm. The front and rear shells are connected with the diaphragm placed in between the two. The power cylinder chamber is closed to the atmosphere and the left and right chambers of the diaphragm are kept sealed.

- Bleed air from brake lines of primary side as if you were changing a master cylinder.
- Bleed air from secondary side by replacing cone screw with a bleeder Fig. .
- Depress brake pedal and intermittently apply AV signal to magnet valve. Do not apply signal for more than five seconds.
- Release pedal at end of stroke. Repeat until air disappears, then repeat normal bleeding operations. Bleed air from other secondary circuits following above procedure.
