PADS, REPLACE
- Raise and support vehicle and remove tire and wheel assembly.
- Remove caliper slide pin on main pin side, Fig. . Do not remove caliper slide pin on the subpin side unless necessary.
- Lift up caliper and suspend out of way so that brake hose is not stretched.
- Remove pads, anti-squeal shims and the pad support plate.
- Reverse procedure to install, torquing caliper slide pin to 65 ft. lbs.
CALIPER, REPLACE
- Raise and support vehicle and remove wheel and tire assembly.
- Disconnect brake hose from brake tube and caliper.
- Remove two caliper slide pins and the caliper.

- Raise and support rear of vehicle them remove wheel and tire assembly.
- Remove brake drum. If brake drum cannot be removed easily, insert a suitable screwriver through hole in backing plate, then push adjuster lever away from adjuster and back of adjustment tension.
- Remove two shoe return springs, using suitable tool, Fig.
- Push lever upward, then remove cable, shoe guide, plate and cable guide.
- Remove spring from lever, then the lever and spring.

- On MR2, remove luggage compartment trim cover by removing two clips after disengaging inner part of clip.
- On all models, label, disconnect brake lines using line wrench 09751-36011, or equivalent. Then cap brake lines from master cylinder.
- Disconnect wire connector from brake pressure switch and then disconnect level warning switch connector, if equipped.
- Remove master cylinder to brake unit attaching nuts, then remove master cylinder, wire clamp, gasket and 3-way union, as needed.
- Reverse procedure to install. Bleed brake system.
