- On models with airbag, disable airbag system as described under "Airbag System Disarming."
- On models less airbag, disconnect battery ground cable.
- On all models, remove master cylinder as outlined under "Master Cylinder, Replace" in the "Hydraulic Brake System" section.

- Apply parking brake and count number of notches on parking brake sector. Specified number of notches should be as follows: 4-7 for Celica, 5-8 for Corolla, 5-8 for Camry, 4-5 for Previa, 5-8 for Tercel sedans, 6-8 for Tercel wagons, and 7-9 for Van models.
- On Camry, Celica, Corolla and Tercel, adjust parking brake as follows:
- Remove console box, and if necessary, the shift knob.
- Loosen locknut and turn adjustment screw until lever travel is correct.

PADS, REPLACE
- Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
- Remove clip and hole pins, Fig. .
- Remove anti-rattle spring and shim(s) if equipped, then remove brake pads.
- Lubricate caliper housing with suitable brake grease at pad contact points.
- Reverse procedure to install.
CALIPER, REPLACE
- Remove pads as described under "Pads, Replace."
- Disconnect brake hydraulic line from caliper.
- Remove caliper retaining bolts, then the caliper.
- Reverse procedure to install, then bleed brake system.
DISC, REPLACE

- On MR2, remove luggage compartment trim cover by removing two clips after disengaging inner part of clip.
- On all models, label, disconnect brake lines using line wrench 09751-36011, or equivalent. Then cap brake lines from master cylinder.
- Disconnect wire connector from brake pressure switch and then disconnect level warning switch connector, if equipped.
- Remove master cylinder to brake unit attaching nuts, then remove master cylinder, wire clamp, gasket and 3-way union, as needed.
- Reverse procedure to install. Bleed brake system.
