Compressor oil level should be checked whenever system is discharged for service part replacement or after rapid loss of refrigerant.
This compressor is a high speed unit. Proper operation requires sufficient lubrication, but excess oil will reduce cooling efficiency.
- Determine the mounting angle of the compressor, then compare angle to Figs. and , for acceptable oil level.
- Remove oil filler plug and, looking through plug hole, turn front clutch plate to position piston connect...

Cooling Fans -> Passenger Cars Except Saturn -> PRIZM -> COMPONENT REPLACEMENT -> Coolant Fan, Replace -> DESCRIPTION -> SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS & TESTING -> TROUBLESHOOTING
Vehicle: 1992 Buick Park Avenue 3.8 V6 GAS
DESCRIPTION
When the ignition switch is in either the RUN or START positions, system voltage is applied to the coils of the main engine relay and to fan relay 1. Because the main relay is grounded at G108, the relay is energized, its contacts close, and battery voltage is applied through the relay and the radiator fan fusible link to the contacts of fan relay 1.
When engine coolant temperature is below 194°F, the coolant fan temperature switch provides a ground for relay 1, the relay energizes and its contacts are pulled open.
Whenever engine coolant temperature reache...

Vehicle: 1992 Buick Park Avenue Ultra 3.8 V6 GAS
While a detailed diagnostic procedure for all air conditioning systems would be impractical due to the many variations in construction and operation, there are three fundamental components of a total diagnosis:
- Refrigerant systems must have an adequate, but not excessive charge.
- Determination must be made whether the refrigerant system is governed by a cycling clutch compressor or by valves which control evaporator pressure.
- The air distribution system (blower motor, switches, vacuum lines and air ducts) must be operational before checking the refrigera...

Safety
R-12 Systems
The Freon refrigerant used in car air conditioners is also known as R-12. It is colorless and odorless both as a gas and a liquid. Since it boils (vaporizes) at -21.7°F, it will usually be in a vapor state when being handled in a repair shop. But if a portion of the liquid coolant should come in contact with the hands or face, note that its temperature momentarily will be at least 22° below zero.
Protective goggles should be worn when opening any refrigerant lines. If liquid coolant does touch the eyes, bathe the eyes quickly in cold water. ...

Vehicle: 1992 Buick Park Avenue Ultra 3.8 V6 GAS
DESCRIPTION
Less A/C
Cooling fan operation is controlled by an engine temperature switch. When engine temperature reaches 221°F, the switch closes and the fan is energized. As the engine cools, the engine temperature switch opens and the cooling fan stops.
With A/C
Operation of the two-speed cooling fan is controlled by high and low speed cooling fan relays. When the A/C system is turned on, voltage is supplied to the A/C compressor relay, the ECM grounds the compressor relay coil and the low speed fan relay is energized. Voltage is then transferred from fu...
