DESCRIPTION
The coolant fan is controlled by the coolant fan relay. The coolant fan relay is electrically operated by the ECM. The ECM receives input signals from the coolant temperature sensor, vehicle speed sensor and A/C mode selector. The ECM will activate the coolant fan relay when engine temperature is above 227°F, air conditioning is turned on, or the coolant temperature sensor fails. Any of these input signals causes the ECM to ground, circuit 536 on 2.3L VIN D and VIN 3 engines and circuit 535 on 3.3L VIN N engines, when vehicle speed is less than 35 mph. When circu...

The primary and secondary coolant fans are turned on and off by the ECM based on inputs from A/C head pressure, engine coolant temperature, vehicle speed and A/C request signals.
The primary cooling fan is turned On when vehicle speed is below 35 mph, diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) 14 or 15 are present, coolant temperature is greater than 226°F or high A/C pressure is indicated.

- On models equipped with air bag, disarm air bag system as described under .
- On all models, lower glove compartment to gain access to control cable turnbuckle.
- Set control cable to full Cold, then adjust turnbuckle until temperature valve just comes to a stop on the left.
- Move control to full Hot, then feel if valve is held against right side. If not, adjust turnbuckle until valve just stops against right side.
- Recheck cold side. If not satisfactory, repeat Steps 3 and 4.
