- Discharge refrigerant and remove clutch plate and hub outlined previously.
- Using tool No. J-5403-A, or equivalent, remove shaft seal seat retainer ring.
- Remove shaft seal seat and seal with tool No. J-23128-A, then the O-ring with tool No. J-9553-01, or equivalents.
INSTALLATION
Ensure compressor neck and shaft area are free from lint, dirt, or other foreign material before installing new seal parts.
- Lubricate seal seat O-ring in refrigerant oil and assemble onto tool No. J-33011, or equivalent.

- Remove front differential carrier shield, if used.
- Reference mark relationship of propeller shaft to front axle and transfer case flange.
- Remove bolts and retainers from front axle.
- Remove bolts and retainers from transfer case.
- Remove propeller shaft. When removing propeller shaft, do not attempt to remove shaft by pounding on yoke ears or using a tool between yoke and universal joint. If propeller shaft is removed by using such means, injection joints may fracture and lead to premature failure of joint.
