The electronic control unit is located beneath the lefthand side of the rear seat.
- Turn ignition switch to the Off position.
- Remove rear seat.
- Remove spring retaining electrical connector, then disconnect electrical connector.
- Remove screws securing control unit.
- Reverse procedure to install.

- Remove lower slot cover from between knee bolster and lower column cover.
- Remove knee bolster.
- Remove ABS control module.
- Disconnect ABS control module electrical harness connector.

Power Brake Units -> Power Brake Unit Service -> A4 -> A6, Cabriolet & 90 -> A8 -> Hydraulic Booster/Servo -> Vacuum Booster

Hydraulic Booster/Servo
- Remove master cylinder as outlined under "Hydraulic Brake System."
- Disconnect hydraulic lines from booster/servo.
- Remove brake booster/servo attaching bolts.
- Disconnect booster pushrod from brake pedal.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Adjust push rod length to 9.04-9.08 inches from face of booster/servo unit to center of clevis hole.
- Torque booster mounting bolts to 18 ft. lbs.

Obtain the radio anti-theft system code before attempting any repair that requires battery disconnect. If a code is unavailable, on repairs that do not require air bag system disarming, a "Computer Memory Saver" should be plugged into the cigarette lighter to maintain a constant voltage to the radio.
If radio is disabled proceed as follows to reactivate system.
- Obtain radio anti-theft system code from vehicle owner/operator, then turn radio to On position, SAFE should be displayed.

Refer to Fig. when servicing front disc brake calipers, noting the following:
- Remove piston from caliper housing using replacement tool No. 3272, or equivalent, Fig. .
- Remove caliper piston seal using a suitable screwdriver, Fig. .

Rear Brake Basic Setting, Inspection
Parking brake cable must be free of tension during basic setting check.
- Using a suitable screwdriver, push caliper lever against stop on both sides of vehicle. Parking brake cable is too tight if lever of opposite side caliper is pulled away from stop.
- If necessary, loosen adjustment nut for parking brake cable until both levers rest against stop.
- Push a suitable screwdriver between end of rear spring and roller.
- Press brake pedal once, and ensure both wheels rotate freely.
- Remove screwdriver.
