Brake System Bleed

The BENDIX ABX-4 anti-lock brake system must be bled as two independent braking systems. The non ABS portion of the brake system should be bled the same as any non ABS system. The ABS portion of the system requires the use of a DRB or equivalent scan tool.

  • To bleed the non ABS portion of the system using a pressure bleeder, proceed as follows:
    • Connect pressure bleeder tool No. C-3496-B, or equivalent, and adapter BB400-9A or equivalent to pressurize brake system. Follow manufactures instructions, for use of pressure bleeding equipment.

If a decreasing brake pedal is encountered, the power brake unit may be binding internally. To test the power brake unit for this condition proceed as follows:

  • Place transmission shift lever into Neutral and start engine.
  • Increase engine speed to approximately 1500 RPM, close throttle and completely depress brake pedal.
  • Slowly release brake pedal and stop engine.

Connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located under the lefthand side of the instrument panel, Figs. and .
