- Remove 2/3 of brake fluid from master cylinder reservoir.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Mark relationship of wheel to axle flange, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
- Remove bolt and washer attaching cable support bracket to caliper body, Fig. .
- Remove sleeve bolt and pivot caliper assembly up, Fig. . Do not completely remove caliper assembly body.
- Remove outboard and inboard shoe and linings, then two pad clips from caliper support.
- Using a suitable spanner type tool in piston slots, turn piston assembly and thread it into caliper body assembly.

Two basic types of power assist mechanisms are used: vacuum assist diaphragm assemblies, which use engine vacuum or, in some cases vacuum pressure developed by an external vacuum pump. The second type is a hydraulic pressure assist mechanism, which use pressure developed by an external pump (usually the power steering pump). Both systems act to increase the force exerted on the master cylinder piston by the operator. Before performing any repairs on the ABS system, note the following precautions:
- Before using electric welding equipment, disconnect EBTCM.
- Carefully note routing, position and mounting ABS and TCS wiring, connectors, clips and brackets. ABS and TCS are extremely sensitive to electromagnetic interference.
- Do not use a fast charger when battery is connected. Never disconnect battery from system with engine running.
- Ignition switch must be in Off position when disconnecting EBTCM.
