Prior to removing brake shoes it is recommended that a suitable clip or restraining device be applied to the wheel cylinders to prevent the wheel cylinder pistons from being pushed out of their bores.
Brake Shoe Removal
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove wheel and tire assemblies, then the brake drums.
- Remove U-clip and washer from parking brake lever pivot pin, Figs. and , then discard clip.
- Using suitable tool, remove primary and secondary return springs.
- Remove spring retainers, hold-down springs, and retaining pins.
- Install suitable clamps over ends of wheel cylinders.
