Anti-Lock Brakes -> Teves Mark IV -> DESCRIPTION -> ABS Warning Lamp -> Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) -> System Components -> System Operation -> Wheel Speed Sensors
Vehicle: 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0 V8 GAS
System Operation
The purpose of the anti-lock brake system is to prevent wheel lock-up under heavy braking conditions on virtually any road surface. When a wheel locking condition exists, the Pressure Modulator Valve (PMV) assembly isolates each wheel's hydraulic circuit, then begins modulation of fluid pressure according to wheel speed inputs to the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) or Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM). The PMV is controlled by the EBCM.
Modulation occurs by means of three ABS modes: pressure hold, pressure reduce and pressure increase. The PM...

Disc Brakes -> AC-Delco Single Piston Rear Disc Brake (Type 2) -> Troubleshooting -> Brake Roughness
Vehicle: 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0 V8 GAS
Brake Roughness
The most common cause of brake chatter on disc brakes is a variation in thickness of the disc. If roughness or vibration is encountered during highway operation or if pedal pulsation is experienced at low speeds, the disc may have excessive thickness variation. To check for this condition, measure the disc at 12 points with a micrometer at a radius approximately one inch from edge of disc. If thickness measurements vary by more than .0005 inch,...
