Accessing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
- Connect DRB scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), the DLC is located under lefthand side of instrument panel, near steering column.
- Turn ignition switch to On position.

Prior to removing brake shoes it is recommended that a suitable clip or restraining device be applied to the wheel cylinders to prevent the wheel cylinder pistons from being pushed out of their bores.

- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove wheel and tire assemblies, then the brake drums.
- Remove U-clip and washer from parking brake lever pivot pin, Figs. and , then discard clip.
- Using suitable tool, remove primary and secondary return springs.

Front
- Unfasten caliper as outlined under "Caliper Service." It is not necessary to disconnect brake hose from caliper. Support caliper at all times to prevent brake hose damage.
- Remove outboard brake pad from caliper by pressing one end inward to release pad lug.
- Rotate shoe upward until spring clears caliper.
- Press other end of pad inward to release other lug, then rotate upwards and out of caliper.
- Grasp ends of inboard pad and tilt outward to release springs from caliper piston.

The cylinder body containing the primary and secondary pistons is made of aluminum. The removable fluid reservoir is made of nylon reinforced with glass fiber. The reservoir is the only serviceable component.
The fluid compartments of the nylon reservoir are interconnected to permit fluid level equalization. The equalization feature does not affect circuit separation in the event of a front or rear brake malfunction. The reservoir compartments will retain enough fluid to operate the functioning hydraulic circuit.

Brake Lines & Linings
Remove one of the front wheels and inspect the brake disc, caliper and linings. The wheel bearings should be inspected at this time and repacked if necessary.
Do not get any oil or grease on the linings. It is recommended that both front wheel sets be replaced whenever a respective pad is worn or damaged. Inspect and, if necessary, replace rear brake linings also.
If the caliper is cracked or fluid leakage through the casting is evident, it must be replaced as a unit.
