- Remove retainers securing rotor to hub, Fig. , then slide rotor off hub studs.

Front
- Unfasten caliper as outlined under "Caliper Service." It is not necessary to disconnect brake hose from caliper. Support caliper at all times to prevent brake hose damage.
- Remove outboard brake pad from caliper by pressing one end inward to release pad lug.
- Rotate shoe upward until spring clears caliper.
- Press other end of pad inward to release other lug, then rotate upwards and out of caliper.

Front
- Remove and discard 2/3 of brake fluid from largest master cylinder reservoir.
- Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheel.
- Press caliper piston to bottom of bore using suitable screwdriver or c-clamp.
- Disconnect brake hose at caliper and cap hose.
- On 1997-98 models, remove caliper mounting pins.
- On 1999 models, remove caliper spring support by prying spring out of caliper.
- On all models, remove caliper slide pin bushing caps and slide pins.
- Lift caliper up and out of anchor plate and off rotor.

- Start engine and inspect booster vacuum hose connections for leaks.
- Stop engine and shift transmission into neutral.
- Pump brake pedal until all vacuum reserve in booster is depleted.
- Press and hold brake pedal under light foot pressure. Pedal should hold firm. If it falls away master cylinder is faulty.
- Start engine and note pedal action. Pedal should fall away slightly under light foot pressure, then hold firm.
- If no pedal action is felt, the power booster, vacuum supply or vacuum check valve are faulty. Proceed to "Power Booster Vacuum Test."
