- On S430 and 2000 S500 models, remove glove compartment.
- On 2000 CL500 models, remove instrument panel upper section and passenger air bag.
- On all models, remove mounting bolt and lever.
- Remove mounting bolt and cover.
- Disconnect actuator motor connector.
- Remove activated charcoal filter flap actuator.
- Reverse procedure to install.

Import Compressor Service -> Nippondenso Compressor -> Compressor Clutch, Replace
Vehicle: 1998 MERCEDES-BENZ S500 5.0 V8 GAS
- Remove shaft nut or bolt, Fig. , with aid of spanner wrench.
- Remove pressure plate using pressure plate remover.
- Remove shims from shaft.
- Remove rotor (pulley) retaining snap ring using suitable snap ring pliers.
- Remove rotor (pulley) by gently tapping it with plastic hammer. Some compressors may require a jaw puller.
- Disconnect stator lead wires from compressor housing.
- Remove stator retaining snap ring using suitable snap ring pliers, then remove stator from compressor housing.

Remove defective components. Add the proper amount of oil to each replacement component. Most recovery/recycling equipment will measure the amount of oil being removed. This is the amount of oil to be added back to the system, follow manufactures instructions provided with the recovery/recycling station.

Mercedes-Benz -> Component Replacement & Adjustment -> Compressor, Replace -> 1998 SL500 -> C230, C280, CLK320, E300, E320 & SLK230 -> E55, E430 & 1998-99 S500 -> S320 & S420 & 1998-99 CL500 & S500 -> S430 & 2000 CL500 & S500 -> S600 & SL600

- Recover refrigerant as outlined under .
- On C230, C280, E300, E320 and SLK230 models, remove lower engine compartment cover.
- On all models, remove drive belt.
- Disconnect connector.
- Remove mounting bolt, then the intake and pressure lines, Fig. . Plug openings.
- Remove mounting bolts and compressor.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Install new O-rings lubricated with suitable compressor oil.
- Torque mounting compressor bolts and lines to 17 ft. lbs.
