Before performing any repairs on the ABS system, note the following precautions:
- Before using electric welding equipment, disconnect EBTCM.
- Carefully note routing, position and mounting ABS and TCS wiring, connectors, clips and brackets. ABS and TCS are extremely sensitive to electromagnetic interference.
- Do not use a fast charger when battery is connected. Never disconnect battery from system with engine running.
- Ignition switch must be in Off position when disconnecting EBTCM.
- Do not hang other components on wheel speed sensor cables.

Front & Rear Split System
When the brake pedal is depressed, both the primary (front brake) and the secondary (rear brake) master cylinder pistons are moved simultaneously to exert hydraulic fluid pressure on their respective systems.
If the rear (secondary) brake system fails, initial brake pedal movement will cause the unrestricted secondary piston to bottom in the master cylinder bore. Primary piston movement will displace hydraulic fluid in the primary section of the master cylinder to actuate the front brake system.

Accessing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) can be accessed with a suitably programmed scan tool connected to the Data Link Connector (DLC), located to the left of the steering column on the instrument panel carrier. Follow the tool manufacturers instructions.
