- Start and run engine at idle speed until it reaches operating temperature.
- Open hood and all doors.
- Turn A/C on and set temperature control knob to full cold.
- Set blower to highest speed setting.
- Feel evaporator outlet pipe, pipe should feel cold.
- If evaporator pipe does not feel cold, refer to insufficient cooling diagnostic chart in Fig. .
- If pipe does feel cold, check for other system problems, refer to "Refrigerant System Test" and "Leak Test."

- Remove water pump mounting bolts.
- Remove water pump and ring seal from cylinder block.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Clean cylinder block mating surface.
- Apply Lubriplate, or equivalent, lubricant to new ring seal.
- Torque water pump mounting bolts to 89 inch lbs.
