However, on most applications, compressor clutch components can be serviced without removing compressor or recovering refrigerant from system. The shaft seal should not be replaced if only small amounts of oil are noted on adjacent surfaces. The shaft seal should only be replaced if a large amount of sprayed oil is observed, and then only after actual refrigerant leakage is found using an approved leak test procedure.
