Do not operate auxiliary water pump until coolant circuit has been vented. A pump running dry will soon fail.

- Remove engine appearance covers.
- Remove front bumper assembly.
- Lock header panel in service position as outlined under "Timing Belt, Replace."
- Remove viscous fan. This has a lefthand thread. Rotate clockwise to loosen using wrench tool No. 3312 while counterholding with pin wrench tool No. 3212, or equivalents.
- Remove upper air ducts.
- Disconnect brake booster vacuum hose at firewall.

The system must be disarmed prior to disconnecting any air bag system electrical connectors or servicing any system components or other components located near an air bag system electrical connector. - Remove timing belt lower cover as outlined under "Timing Belt, Replace."
- Remove thermostat housing mounting bolts, Fig. . then the thermostat. Discard O-ring.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Clean all sealing surfaces.
- Install thermostat with a new O-ring. Torque M6 bolts to 84 inch lbs. Torque M8 bolts to 15 ft. lbs.
- Fill and bleed cooling system as outlined under "Cooling System Bleed."
