DRIVELINE, U-JOINT & CV AXLES REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES FOR 2001 Jeep Wrangler AUTOMOBILES

DRIVESHAFT, Replace -> Front -> Rear
Vehicle: 2001 Jeep Wrangler 2.5 L4 GAS
Front
- With vehicle in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.
- Remove skid plate if equipped to gain access to propeller shaft.
- Mark a line across axle pinion flange, propeller shaft, flange yoke and transfer case for installation reference.
- Remove U-joint strap bolts at pinion shaft yoke.
- Remove transfer case yoke bolts.
- Push rear of propeller shaft forward to clear transfer case yoke.
- Remove propeller shaft from vehicle.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Align reference marks.
- Torque U-joint strap bolts t...

Vehicle: 2001 Jeep Wrangler 2.5 L4 GAS
Clamp only the narrow forged portion of the yoke in the vise. Failure to heed caution may result in damage.
- Remove axle shaft.
- Remove bearing cap retaining snap rings. Saturate the bearing caps with penetrating oil prior to removal.
- Place socket (receiver) with inside diameter larger than bearing cap against yoke and perimeter of bearing cap to be removed.
