- Remove shaft nut or bolt, Fig. , with aid of spanner wrench.
- Remove pressure plate using pressure plate remover.
- Remove shims from shaft.
- Remove rotor (pulley) retaining snap ring using suitable snap ring pliers.
- Remove rotor (pulley) by gently tapping it with plastic hammer. Some compressors may require a jaw puller.
- Disconnect stator lead wires from compressor housing.
- Remove stator retaining snap ring using suitable snap ring pliers, then remove stator from compressor housing.

- Drain coolant into a suitable container.
- Remove timing belt lower cover as outlined under "Water Pump, Replace."
- Remove thermostat housing mounting bolts, Fig. . then the thermostat. Discard O-ring.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Clean all sealing surfaces.
- Install thermostat with a new O-ring. Torque M6 bolts to 84 inch lbs. Torque M8 bolts to 15 ft. lbs.
- Fill and bleed cooling system as outlined under "Cooling System Bleed."
