Disconnect battery ground cable.
Raise vehicle on suitable lift.
Remove bolts securing engine under cover.
Remove bolts from intake hood.
Pull rivet retainer outward to release fan cowl and lift upwards.
Remove microfilter housing by unclipping retainers and remove cable from duct.
Install suitable engine lift mounting brackets.
Remove nut at top engine mount and nut at bottom left engine mount.
Remove retainers securing engine underguard at front, middle, and rear.

STARTER & ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES FOR 2005 BMW 330XI AUTOMOBILES

Disconnect battery ground cable.
Twist and carefully pull idle speed sensor connector.
Loosen clamp and detach air intake hose then unfasten hose clips.
Release air cleaner housing with mass air flow sensor. Separate air cleaner housing from mass air flow sensor.
Remove nuts using suitable tool securing fan clutch. Fan cowl may need to be removed to gain access to fan clutch assembly.
Remove fan and clutch from coolant pump to remove. Turn fan clutch nuts clockwise to remove because of lefthand threads.
