Do not smoke or allow an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel system related components. The highly flammable vapor mixtures may ignite, resulting in serious personal injury.
Obtain the vehicle owner's radio theft protection code, then disconnect the battery ground cable. Briefly open fuel filler cap to relieve system pressure, then close it again.
After the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal driveability symptoms may occur. The vehicle may need to be driven while it relearns its adaptive strategy.

- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove rear section of exhaust system at clamp(s).
- Pry off rear attachments of drive shaft heat shield.
- Remove securing bolts for center bearing When removing securing bolts, support drive shaft by hand. Do not bend drive shaft.
- Remove heat shield. Continue supporting drive shaft.
- Screw in securing bolts for center bearing again hand-tight.
- Remove drive shaft heat shield from transmission.

- Remove front engine cover.
- Open cap of coolant expansion tank.
- On models with auxiliary heater, remove bolts for parking heater/auxiliary heater exhaust pipe on sound insulation.
- Loosen quick-release fasteners and remove front sound insulation. Rear section of sound insulation remains installed.
- Remove front bumper cover.
- Disconnect coolant hose from lower left of radiator and drain engine coolant, using a suitable container.
