- Drain coolant into a suitable container.
- Disconnect inlet and outlet heater hoses in engine compartment. Drain as much coolant as possible from heater unit and plug disconnected hoses.
- Disconnect heater control and mode door cables, then the vacuum hose from heater unit joint.
- Remove instrument panel as outlined under "Instrument Panel, Replace."
- On Impreza and SVX models, remove steering column support beam.
- On all models, remove evaporator as outlined under "Evaporator Core,... "

The following procedure must be performed when tire pressure sensor or TPMS control module is replaced. If tire pressure sensor transmitter ID cannot be registered after two attempts, replace the TPMS control module.
