REMOVAL
- Raise the vehicle and remove front wheels.
- Disconnect and cap flexible brake line, then remove caliper retaining clips and anti-rattle springs, Fig. .
- Remove caliper from disc by slowly sliding caliper assembly out and away from disc. Use some means to support caliper. Do not let caliper hang from hydraulic line.
DISASSEMBLE
- With caliper and pads removed as described previously, place the caliper onto the upper control arm and slowly depress brake pedal, in turn hydraulically pushing piston out of bore.

The rear brakes are self-adjusting. An initial adjustment is necessary after the brake shoes have been relined or replaced, or when the length of the star wheel adjuster has been changed during other service operations. To adjust the rear brakes, proceed as follows:
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove adjusting hole covers from brake supports.
- Release parking brake and back off adjustment to slacken cable.
- Insert adjusting tool C-3784 or equivalent into star wheel of adjusting screw. Move handle of tool upward until a slight drag is felt.

Any time the brake drums are removed for brake service, the braking surface diameter should be checked with a suitable brake drum micrometer at several points to determine if they are within the safe oversize limit stamped on the brake drum outer surface. - Remove brake drum. If brake lining is dragging on brake drum, back off brake adjustment by rotating adjustment screw. If brake drum is rusted or corroded to axle flange and cannot be removed, lightly tap axle flange to drum mounting surface with a suitable hammer.
