  • Use the brake shoe adjustment gauge shown inFig. to obtain the drum inside diameter as shown. Tighten the adjusting knob on the gauge to hold this setting.
  • Place the opposite side of the gauge over the brake shoes and adjust the shoes by turning the adjuster screw until the gauge just slides over the linings. Rotate the gauge around the lining surface to assure proper lining diameter adjustment and clearance.
  • Install brake drum and wheel, final adjustment is accomplished by making several firm reverse stops, using the brake pedal.

  • Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
  • Using a chisel, unstake and remove halfshaft retaining nut and washer.Discard nut and washer.
  • Remove brake pads and caliper from the steering knuckle as outlined. Support the caliper by a wire strung from the coil spring. Do not disconnect the brake line from the caliper.
  • Using tie rod end separator tool No. T85M-3395-A or equivalent, disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
