  • Mark relationship of wheel to axle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
  • Remove brake drum. If drum is difficult to remove, insert screwdriver through hole in backing plate and hold automatic adjusting lever away from adjusting bolt, then, using a second screwdriver, reduce brake shoe adjustment.
  • Remove return spring, Fig.

Manual Bleeding

Pressure bleeding is recommended for all hydraulic systems. However, if a pressure bleeder is unavailable, use the following procedure.Brake fluid damages painted surfaces. Immediately clean any spilled fluid.

  • Remove vacuum reserve by pumping brakes several times with engine off.
  • Fill master cylinder reservoir with clean brake fluid. Check fluid level often during bleeding procedure; do not let reservoir fall below half full.

REMOVAL
  • Siphon2/3 of the brake fluid from master cylinder, raise and support vehicle, and remove wheels.
  • Reinstall 2 wheel nuts to retain rotor.
  • Remove union nut securing brake hose to caliper and drain fluid into suitable container.
  • Remove clip from parking brake and disconnect parking brake cable.
  • Remove caliper mounting bolt, lift caliper, then remove parking brake pin clip.
  • While pushing parking brake crank, Fig. , remove pin.
  • Lift caliper and remove from vehicle.
