Any time the brake drums are removed for brake service, the braking surface diameter should be checked with a suitable brake drum micrometer at several points to determine if they are within the safe oversize limit stamped on the brake drum outer surface. - Hoist and support vehicle on safety stands.
- Scribe alignment marks on yokes at transfer case. Place marks at pinion shaft and at each end of propeller shaft. These marks will be used for installation reference.
- Remove universal joint strap bolts at pinion shaft yoke.
- Disconnect propeller shaft at transfer case and remove propeller shaft.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Torque universal joint strap/clamp bolts at axle yoke to 14 ft. lbs.
- Torque flange to transfer case bolts to 20 ft. lbs.
