BRAKE LINES & LININGS
Remove one of the front wheels and inspect the brake disc, caliper and linings.
Do not get any oil or grease on the linings. It is recommended that all linings be replaced in sets when worn or damaged.
If the caliper is cracked or fluid leakage through the casting is evident, it must be replaced as a unit.
BRAKE ROUGHNESS
The most common cause of brake chatter on disc brakes is a variation in thickness of the disc. If roughness or vibration is encountered during highway operation or if pedal pumping is experienced at low speeds, the disc may have excessive t...

POWER BRAKE UNITS, GENERAL MOTORS -> Bendix Brake Boosters -> HYDRO-BOOST II -> BLEEDING BOOSTER -> CLEANING & INSPECTION -> DESCRIPTION -> DISASSEMBLE & ASSEMBLE
Vehicle: 1991 Chevrolet P30 VAN 7.4 V8 GAS
DESCRIPTION
Hydro-Boost II is an hydraulically operated power brake booster. The hydraulic brake booster consists of an open center spool valve and an hydraulic cylinder combined into a single housing. The power steering pump provides the hydraulic fluid pressure to operate both the power brake booster and the power steering gear.
A dual master cylinder is bolted to the brake booster and is operated by a pushrod projecting from the booster cylinder bore.
The Hydro-Boost II also has an accumulator system which stores sufficient fluid under pressure to provide one power assisted brake...

DRUM BRAKES, GENERAL MOTORS -> General Information -> SERVICE PRECAUTIONS
Vehicle: 1991 Chevrolet P30 VAN 3.9 L4 DIESEL
When working on or around brake assemblies, care must be taken to prevent breathing asbestos dust, as many manufacturers incorporate asbestos fibers in the production of brake linings. During routine service operations, the amount of asbestos dust from brake lining wear is at a low level due to a chemical breakdown during use, and a few precautions will minimize exposure. Do not sand or grind brake linings unless suitable local exhaust ventilation equipment is used to prevent e...

POWER BRAKE UNITS, GENERAL MOTORS -> Bendix Brake Boosters -> HYDRO-BOOST -> ACCUMULATOR SERVICE -> ASSEMBLE -> BLEEDING BOOSTER -> CLEANING & INSPECTION -> DESCRIPTION -> DISASSEMBLE
Vehicle: 1991 Chevrolet P30 VAN 4.3 V6 GAS
DESCRIPTION
The Hydro-Boost system, Fig. , provides an additional cylinder in the brake system. This cylinder contains no brake fluid. The Hydro-Boost cylinder is hydraulically operated, by pressurized fluid from the power steering pump, providing power assist to operate a dual master cylinder brake system.
The booster is composed of two sections; the linkage section and the power section.
The booster is designed so that if a total absence of power assist occurs, the brakes can be applied manually, but somewhat greater pressure on the brake pedal is required.
DISASSEMBLE
- Place accumulato...
