- Raise and support vehicle.
- Release parking brake and back off cable adjustment to slacken cable.
- Tighten cable adjusting nut until a slight drag is obtained while rotating wheels.
- Loosen cable adjusting nut until rear wheels rotate freely, then an additional two turns.
- Apply and release parking brake to check for proper operation. The rear wheels should rotate without dragging.

Remove one of the front wheels and inspect the brake disc, caliper and linings. The wheel bearings should be inspected at this time and repacked if necessary.
Do not get any oil or grease on the linings. It is recommended that both front wheel sets be replaced whenever a respective pad is worn or damaged. Inspect and, if necessary, replace rear brake linings also.
If the caliper is cracked or fluid leakage through the casting is evident, it must be replaced as a unit.

Removal
- Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
- Remove brake drum. If brake lining is dragging on brake drum, back off brake adjustment by rotating adjustment screw.
- Using suitable pliers, remove adjuster lever spring, Fig. .
- Remove adjuster lever.
- Turn automatic adjuster screw out to expand shoes past wheel cylinder boot.
- Using suitable tool, remove hold-down springs.
- Pull brake shoe assembly down and away from anchor plate.
- Remove "C" clip retaining parking brake lever to trailing brake shoe webbing.
- Disassemble shoe assembly.
