DISASSEMBLE
- Remove caliper as described under "Caliper, Replace."
- Remove boot ring from caliper body.
- Place shop towel in saddle of caliper body, then apply compressed air to brake fluid inlet to force piston from bore. Remove piston. Keep hands away from front of piston during removal. Apply compressed air slowly to ease piston from bore.
- Remove piston seal using care not to scratch cylinder walls.
- Clean piston and cylinder wall surfaces with brake fluid or alcohol.
- Remove sleeve and boot from caliper body.

BRAKE LINES & LININGS
Remove one of the front wheels and inspect the brake disc, caliper and linings. The wheel bearings should be inspected at this time and repacked if necessary.
Do not get any oil or grease on the linings. It is recommended that both front wheel sets be replaced whenever a respective pad is worn or damaged. Inspect and, if necessary, replace rear brake linings also.
If the caliper is cracked or fluid leakage through the casting is evident, it must be replaced as a unit.

- Raise and support vehicle.
- Release parking brake and back off cable adjustment to slacken cable.
- Tighten cable adjusting nut until a slight drag is obtained while rotating wheels.
- Loosen cable adjusting nut until rear wheels rotate freely, then an additional two turns.
- Apply and release parking brake to check for proper operation. The rear wheels should rotate without dragging.

The rear brakes are self-adjusting. An initial adjustment is necessary after the brake shoes have been relined or replaced, or when the length of the star wheel adjuster has been changed during other service operations. To adjust the rear brakes, proceed as follows:
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove adjusting hole covers from brake supports.
- Release parking brake and back off adjustment to slacken cable.
- Insert adjusting tool C-3784 or equivalent into star wheel of adjusting screw. Move handle of tool upward until a slight drag is felt.
