- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Release fuel system pressure as outlined under "Fuel System Pressure Release."
- Remove timing belt. Refer to "MOTOR's Imported Car Repair Manual" for replacement procedures.
- Drain engine coolant into a suitable container.
- Replace engine water pump in numbered sequence shown in Figs. and , noting the following during installation:
- Coat inlet pipe O-ring with water to ease installation.
- On DOHC engines, install water pump bolts in correct location, Fig. .

- Drain cooling system, then remove thermo sensors from radiator.
- Submerge sensor end of thermo sensor as shown in Fig. .
- Connect ohmmeter across thermo sensor terminals.
- Continuity should exist at approximately 185°F, and no continuity at 172-183°F or less.
Relay Testing
- With radiator fan relay disconnected, use suitable ohmmeter to check for continuity between terminals 1 and 2 Fig. , continuity should exist. Check between terminals 3 and 4, continuity should not exist. ...
