- Remove any plugs from refrigerant line connections on compressor to purge residual gas, Fig. .
- Drain and discard all oil from compressor.
- Remove Woodruff key using suitable puller.
- Remove thrust washer, then the seal using suitable puller, Fig. .
- Remove rear housing cover attaching bolts, then the rear cover. A soft-faced hammer may be used to tap off rear cover if necessary.

BMW -> Component Replacement & Adjustment -> BLOWER MOTOR, REPLACE -> 318 & 325 -> 525 & 535 -> Evaporator Blower Motor -> Heater Blower

- Disarm air bag system as described under .
- Remove rear hood seal from channel and electrical wire duct grille from firewall.
- Remove air collection box.
- Remove cylinder head cover for access.
- Loosen screws and tilt blower motor electric lead cover forward.
- Loosen clips and remove cover. Disconnect blower motor electrical connectors.
- On 318 models, remove water flange for clearance.
- On all models, remove blower motor.
- Reverse procedure to install. Rearm air bag system as outlined under if equipped.
