The following procedure has been revised by BMW Technical Service Bulletin No. 34 06 90 (3134).
- Connect suitable pressure bleeder to brake fluid reservoir. Maximum charging pressure is 43.5 psi.
- Attach bleeder hose and container to right rear wheel. Bleed until no bubbles appear.
- Repeat step 2 for left rear, right front and left front wheels.

- Remove piston boot and snap ring.
- Position block of wood in caliper recess, then apply compressed air to fluid inlet to force piston from bore.
- Remove bleeder screw.
- Remove piston seal using a suitable tool, taking care not to damage caliper bore.
- Remove dowel sleeves (5) from guide bolt bores, Fig. .
- Clean caliper and piston with alcohol, blow dry with compressed air and coat sealing surfaces with brake fluid.

HYDRAULIC UNIT, REPLACE
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Remove coolant expansion tank.
- Remove brake lines from hydraulic unit as follows: front left; front right; rear left; rear right.
- Remove brake hydraulic lines from master cylinder to hydraulic unit.
- Remove cover from top of hydraulic cover, then loosen, but do not remove, bolts for hydraulic unit.
- Remove retaining screws and pull of f multiple pin connector and disconnect ground wire.
- Pull up on the front of the hydraulic unit, then disconnect the rear and remove the unit.
