DESCRIPTION
Two coolant fans, wired in parallel, operate whenever cooling is required.
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has two coolant fan control terminals, one for high speed and one for low speed. When the PCM's low speed control closes at connector C3, terminal C4, it grounds the low speed coolant fan relay coil. When the ignition switch is in the run position and relay contacts close, voltage is supplied to the coolant fans. The coolant fan resistors drop the voltage to the lefthand coolant fan, causing it to run in low speed. The righthand coolant fan runs a...

Cooling Fans -> Passenger Cars Except Saturn -> STORM -> COMPONENT REPLACEMENT -> Coolant Fan, Replace -> DESCRIPTION -> SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS & TESTING -> TROUBLESHOOTING
Vehicle: 1992 Chevrolet Caprice Classic 5.7 V8 GAS
DESCRIPTION
With the engine running, the generator applies voltage to the restart relay. The voltage passes through the closed contacts of the restart relay to the condenser fan relay and the radiator fan relay. The triple switch closes when the refrigerant pressure is above 214 psi. When the triple switch closes, the condenser fan and radiator fan relays energize.
The condenser fan receives battery voltage from fuse E-4 through the closed contacts of the condenser fan relay. The radiator fan receives battery voltage from fusible link FL-4 through the radiator fan relay.
