Any time the brake drums are removed for brake service, the braking surface diameter should be checked with a suitable brake drum micrometer at several points to determine if they are within the safe oversize limit stamped on the brake drum outer surface. If the braking surface diameter exceeds specifications, the drum must be replaced. If the braking surface diameter is within specifications, drums should be cleaned and inspected for cracks, scores, deep grooves, taper, out of round and heat spotting. - Remove master cylinder attaching nuts, disconnect brake tubes between master cylinder and valve assembly, then remove master cylinder.
- Remove clutch cable mounting bracket, if equipped.
- Disconnect vacuum hose from check valve on power brake unit. Do not remove check valve from booster.
- Pull wiring harness away from and up shock tower. If more slack is required, disconnect wiring harness from bulkhead connector.

Use the following general precautions whenever servicing the ABS system:
- If any welding work is to be performed using an arc welder, CAB should be disconnected.
- When the ignition switch is in the ON position, the CAB electrical connector should not be disconnected or connected.
- Some components of the ABS system are not serviced separately and must be serviced as complete assemblies. Do not disassemble any component which is designated as non-serviceable.
