BRAKE SERVICE PROCEDURES FOR 1992 GMC Typhoon AUTOMOBILES

Includes anti-lock brakes, disc, drum, power and hydraulic brake services diagnostics and procedures for domestic and imported 1992 GMC Typhoon cars and light trucks from 1990+.

Disc Brakes -> Bendix Single Piston Sliding Caliper -> Rotor Replacement -> 2WD Models -> 4WD Models
Vehicle: 1992 GMC Typhoon 4.3 V6 GAS

4WD Models

  • Raise and support vehicle.
  • Remove tire and wheel.
  • Remove caliper as outlined under "Caliper Service."
  • On K1500 and K2500 models, remove rotor.
  • On K3500 models proceed as follows:
    • Remove hub retaining nut.
    • Remove four hub/rotor retaining bolts on back side of spindle.
    • Using suitable wheel puller, remove rotor assembly.
  • On K1500 and K2500 models, reverse procedure to install, tightening all bolts to specifications. Install caliper as outlined under "Caliper Service."
  • On K3500 models, reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
    • Torque hub nut to 173 ft. lbs

The height sensing proportioning valve must be adjusted whenever the valve and/or linkage is disassembled or removed for service. These brakes have self-adjusting shoe mechanisms that assure correct lining-to-drum clearances at all times. The automatic adjusters operate only when the brakes are applied as the vehicle is moving rearward or when the car comes to an uphill stop.
