- Apply parking brake and count number of notches on parking brake sector. Specified number of notches should be as follows: 4-7 for Celica, 5-8 for Corolla, 5-8 for Camry, 4-5 for Previa, 5-8 for Tercel sedans, 6-8 for Tercel wagons, and 7-9 for Van models.
- On Camry, Celica, Corolla and Tercel, adjust parking brake as follows:

- Raise and support vehicle and remove wheel and tire assembly.
- Reinstall two wheel lug nuts to retain disc.
- Remove two attaching bolts and the caliper from the torque plate, Fig. .
- Remove brake pads, anti-squeal shims, pad wear indicator plates and support plates.
- Reverse procedure to install, torquing caliper attaching bolts to 18 ft. lbs.
1991-92 w/3S-GTE Engine
- Raise and support vehicle and remove wheel and tire assembly.
- Hold sliding pin and remove caliper bolts.

- Remove brake drum. If brake drum cannot be removed easily, insert a suitable screwriver through hole in backing plate, then push adjuster lever away from adjuster and back of adjustment tension.
