Ensure dirt or other foreign matter is not allowed to contaminate brake fluid. Do not mix different types of brake fluid, as they might not be compatible.
- Refer to Figs. through when replacing calipers.
- Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assemblies.
- Remove banjo bolt and disconnect brake hose from caliper, Fig. .
- Remove caliper bolts, then the caliper.
Installation
- Install caliper and caliper bolts.
- Connect brake hose to caliper, then install banjo bolt.
- Bleed front brakes, then install wheel and tire assemblies.

- Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assemblies.
- Loosen parking brake, then remove rear brake drums.
- Remove tension pins by pushing retainer springs while turning.
- Lower brake shoe assembly being careful not to damage wheel cylinder dust cover, then remove lower return spring.
- Disconnect parking brake cable from parking brake lever, then remove brake shoe assembly.

- Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assemblies.
- Remove brake hose clamp bolts from steering knuckle, Fig. .
- Remove caliper bolt, then swing caliper up out of the way.
- Remove shims, retainers and brake pads.
Installation
- Using vernier caliper, measure thickness of each pad lining. Compare measurement with specifications. If brake lining thickness is less than specified, replace both pads as a set.
- Clean caliper thoroughly, and check for grooves or cracks. Repair or replace as necessary.

Master cylinder pushrod-to-piston clearance must be checked and adjusted before installing master cylinder.
- Using pushrod adjustment gauge tool No. 07JAG-SD40100, or equivalent, adjust bolt so top of it is flush with end of master cylinder piston, Fig. .
- Install master cylinder rod seal between pushrod bolt adjustment gauge and brake booster.
- Without disturbing position of adjusting bolts, install gauge upside down on booster and torque nuts to 11 ft. lbs.
