Although the compressor must be removed from its mount in order to replace the clutch assembly, it is not necessary to discharge A/C refrigerant.
- Remove compressor shaft bolt, Fig. , using a suitable band type oil filter wrench to prevent clutch plate rotation.
- Using a suitable plastic hammer, tap clutch plate, then remove plate and shims, Fig. .
- Remove pulley retaining ring using snap ring tool No. C-4574 or equivalent, then slide pulley off compressor. Do not pry upon clutch plate or pulley.

If battery cable has been disconnected, the PCM must relearn a new operating strategy. Connect battery cable and run engine until operating temperature is reached. After engine warm-up, drive vehicle under various operating conditions until PCM has relearned new strategy.
