Frequent usage of an automatic transmission forward range to halt reverse vehicle motion may prevent t...

Disc Brakes -> Ram 1500-3500 -> Description
Vehicle: 1994 Dodge RAM 2500 Pickup 5.2 V8 GAS
These vehicles employ Delco single piston sliding calipers. The most significant feature of single piston caliper operation is that the calipers are free to slide laterally on the mounting bolts. It is the freedom of lateral movement that allows continuous compensation for lining wear.
Upon brake application, fluid pressure exerted against the caliper piston increases equally in all directions, creating the same pressure in the caliper bore and on the piston.

When the brake pedal is depressed, both the primary (front brake) and the secondary (rear brake) master cylinder pistons are moved simultaneously to exert hydraulic fluid pressure on their respective independent hydraulic systems. The fluid displacement of the two master cylinders is proportioned to fulfill the requirements of each of the two independent hydraulic brake systems.
If a failure of the rear (secondary) brake system should occur, initial brake pedal movement causes the unrestricted secondary piston to bottom in the master cylinder ...
