  • Remove master cylinder from vehicle.
  • Remove secondary piston stopper screw with screwdriver as shown in Fig. .
  • Push piston inward, then remove snap ring.
  • Apply pressure to piston assembly while Inserting a small screwdriver into window of piston retainer and raise piston retainer latch as shown in Fig. .
  • Remove primary and secondary piston assemblies. Do not disassemble pistons. if disassembled, the spring settings will change.
  • Inspect master cylinder inside diameter to piston clearance, Service limit is not to exceed 0.043 inch.

The brake booster is located inline between the master cylinder and the brake pedal. It serves to mechanically boost the force pushing the pistons of the master cylinder.

The brake booster consists of a power cylinder section and a power piston section. The power cylinder is made up of a front shell, rear shell and a diaphragm. The front and rear shells are connected with the diaphragm placed in between the two.
