Front & Rear Split Hydraulic Brake Systems
When the brake pedal is depressed, both the primary (front brake) and the secondary (rear brake) master cylinder pistons are moved simultaneously to exert hydraulic fluid pressure on their respective independent hydraulic systems. The fluid displacement of the two master cylinders is proportioned to fulfill the requirements of each of the two independent hydraulic brake systems, Fig. .
If a failure of a rear (secondary) brake system should occur, initial brake pedal movement causes the unrestricted secondary piston to bottom in the master cyl...

Disc Brakes -> Type 7-Kelsey-Hayes Dual Pin Floating Caliper Disc Brake, Rear -> Brake System Bleed -> Manual Bleed -> Pressure Bleed
Vehicle: 1995 Chrysler Lebaron GTC 3.0 V6 GAS
Bleeding the hydraulic brake system is necessary if air has entered the system. Symptoms can be noted by loss of brake operation, and/or a low or spongy brake pedal.
The hydraulic fluid is bled or flushed from the system through bleeder valves located on the calipers, wheel cylinders, and some master cylinders. Use only specified brake fluid when bleeding the system. Never reuse old brake fluid removed from the system.
Pressure Bleed
Pressure bleeding is recommended for all hydraulic brake systems. It is the fastest method because the master cylinder is automatically fed brake f...

Bleeding the hydraulic brake system is necessary if air has entered the system. A few causes for this condition are low fluid level, a hydraulic fluid leak, a hydraulic line is opened, or replacement of a hydraulic system component. Symptoms can be noted by an improper or loss of brake operation, and/or a low or spongy brake pedal.
Flushing the hydraulic brake system is necessary if contaminants are found in the hydraulic system. A few causes for hydraulic system contamination are moisture, age of hydraulic system parts and fluid, or improper fluid used in the system. Symptoms...

Hydraulic Brake Systems -> Hydraulic Brake System Controls -> Anti-Lock Brake System -> Description -> Less Anti-Lock Brake System -> Proportioning Valve -> Testing -> Type 1 Combination Valve -> Type 2 Proportioning Valve -> Type 3 Proportioning Valves -> Type 4 Proportioning Valves -> Warning Light System
Vehicle: 1995 Chrysler Lebaron GTC 3.0 V6 GAS
Type 1 Combination Valve
This valve assembly, Fig. , is comprised of a warning switch, and a dual proportioning valve.
The warning switch detects system failure when a pressure difference occurs between the diagonally split systems. In such a case, the valve piston shuttles toward the side with the low pressure forcing the switch plunger upward over the piston's tapered shoulder. This movement closes the switch contacts causing the brake warning lamp to illuminate. Upon restoration of equalized system pressure the brake warning switch will reset.
The proportioning v...
