- Loosen lock and adjusting nuts.

- Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
- Remove clips (1) securing retaining pins (2), Fig. .
- Remove pins and anti-rattle springs (3), then the pads (4).
- Compress pistons into caliper bores using piston compression tool No. 64932392, or equivalent, Fig. .
- Reverse procedure to install.
XJ6 & XJ12 & 1995-97 XJR
- Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
- Disconnect brake pad wear sensor connector.
- Remove lower guide pin bolt.
- Pivot caliper upward and remove brake pads.
- Compress piston and reverse procedure to install.

- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove brake pads as previously described, then disconnect and plug brake line (1), Fig. .
- Remove lock wire (2), mounting bolts (3), spring washers and stub axle carrier.
- Record number of shims between steering arm and brake caliper, then remove caliper (4).
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Ensure correct number of shims are installed between caliper and steering arm.
- Tighten to mounting bolts specifications and bleed brake system.

Accessing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are accessed by connecting a suitable programmed scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC) and following the tool manufacturer's instructions. On XJS, XJ6 and XJ12 and 1995-97 XJR models, the DLC is located on the instrument panel, between the steering column and center console.

The hydraulic brake system consists of the following main components: Pedal box, servo unit, tandem master cylinder, remote fluid reservoir, four disc brake assemblies and two parking brake calipers.
