- On models equipped with ABS, depress brake pedal several times to exhaust all vacuum in the system.
- On all models, disconnect brake lines from master cylinder, then all necessary electrical connectors.
- On models equipped with ABS, disconnect hydraulic control unit supply hose at master cylinder. Secure hose in a position to prevent brake fluid loss.
- On all models, remove nuts retaining master cylinder to brake booster.

- Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheel assemblies.
- Remove front axle retainer nut and washer, discard nut.
- Remove nut from stabilizer bar link at shock absorber end, then using a suitable tie rod end puller, remove link from shock and position aside.
- Remove nut from tie rod end, then using a suitable tie rod end puller, remove tie rod from knuckle and position aside.
- Remove and discard lower ball joint pinch bolt, then pry lower ball joint from knuckle.
- Remove outer joint from hub using a suitable puller. Do not use a hammer to drive joint from hub.

This lamp should light when the ignition is turned On. After engine starts, the lamp should go off, unless a fault condition is detected in the powertrain system. If the lamp remains On a diagnostic trouble code is stored in the PCM. Following diagnosis and repair, the Powertrain Malfunction Indicator will automatically reset when stored diagnostic trouble codes are cleared from PCM memory. The PCM reset procedure allows the scan tool to command the PCM to clear all diagnostic trouble codes.
