- Remove steering wheel as outlined in MOTOR's Imported Car Repair Manual.
- Remove bottom dashboard trim panel.
- Remove collar from center shaft.
- Remove upper column cover.
- Remove universal joint bolt, Fig. .
- Mark alignment of splines.
- Remove shear bolts with chisel or grind off head.
- Remove self locking nuts, then instrument cluster.
- Disconnect electrical connectors to steering column, then press down and remove column.

- Remove A/C temperature switch as outlined in .
- Rotate switch to fully cold position and connect an ohmmeter to switch terminals. Meter should show continuity.
- Prepare solution of water, crushed ice, and sufficient amount of salt to reduce solution to below 20°F.
- Immerse temperature sensor of switch in ice bath while observing ohmmeter. Be careful not to get salt or water into control portion of switch.
- Ohmmeter should show no continuity while sensor is in ice bath.
