- Ensure parking brake lever is fully released and cables operate freely, then raise and support vehicle.
- Remove one wheel bolt from each wheel.
- Rotate wheel until bolt hole is aligned using parking brake star adjuster.
- On Z3, 318, 323, 325 and 328 models, adjuster is located approximately 30° behind the vertical axis of the wheel on 3 Series models, Fig. .

Hydraulic Power Flow Regulator, Replace
- With engine off, discharge hydraulic reservoir by operating brake pedal approximately 20 times with same force required for full stop braking action.
- Disconnect electrical connectors on circulating pressure warning and hydraulic pressure switches.
- Remove hydraulic lines from power flow regulator.
- Remove power flow regulator mounting bolts.
- Remove power flow regulator.
- Reverse procedure to install. Ensure all connections and pipes are free from dirt.

Operating the brake pedal moves pistons (1 and 4) forward, Fig. . Primary cups (2 and 5) slide over compensation bores (3 and 6), which creates balanced pressure in chambers A and B.

- Remove coolant expansion tank.
- Remove brake lines from hydraulic unit as follows: front left; front right; rear left; rear right.
- Remove brake hydraulic lines from master cylinder to hydraulic unit.
- Remove hydraulic cover, then loosen, but do not remove, unit mounting bolts.
- Remove mounting screws, then disconnect multiple pin connector and ground wire.
- Remove hydraulic unit by pulling front up and disconnecting rear.

The H-31 hydraulic system, Fig. , incorporates a power flow regulator which diverts a small flow of fluid from the power steering operating circuit for the power assisted brake system. It charges the hydraulic reservoir in a high pressure range without impairing the function of power steering.
