DRIVESHAFT, Replace
Vehicle: 1997 Land Rover Discovery 4.0 V8 GAS
SGF flexible rubber coupling should be left attached to propeller shaft. Only remove coupling from driveshaft if replacement is required.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Match mark the following:
- Transmission to driveshaft flange.
- Driveshaft to rear differential flange.
- Front driveshaft to transfer case flange.
- Front driveshaft to front differential flange.

DRIVESHAFT U-JOINT, Replace -> Assemble -> Disassemble
Vehicle: 1997 Land Rover Discovery 4.0 V8 GAS
Disassemble
CAUTION: To ensure correct assembly and reduce possibility of imbalance. Before removing propeller shaft joint. Mark position of spider pin lubricator relative to journal yoke ears.
- Thoroughly examine universal joint for signs of damage or wear. Replace if required.
- Clean universal joint bearing cups and circlips.
- Remove circlips, and grease nipple.
- Tap yokes to eject bearing cups.
- Remove bearing cups and spider.
- Repeat instructions three to six for opposite end of propeller shaft if required.
- Clean yokes and bearing cup locations.

- Remove center cap from front wheel, release stake from drive shaft nut, then loosen nut.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove caliper, disc and disc shield.
- Disconnect ABS sensor electrical connector then remove ABS sensor and bushing from hub.
